Recording, Re-Recording, and Mastering

Hi everyone.  I know it’s been a little while since the last post, but things have been a little busy here and a little exciting as well.

There’s a lot of work and performing going on at the same time.  My day job has me on the road a lot, so it’s been hard to find the time for tasks like final vocal retakes for the Wayfinding album.  However, this is just about done, and we have the album artwork all set to go. So that should be out soon.

On the plus side, the travel has allowed me to get my performing juices flowing, doing live bits and open mic shows – mainly in and around Boston

and Edmonton.  That big old jet airliner will also be taking me to Atlanta, Toronto,

and Berlin, where I think I’ll be

able to sneak a show or so in.

Being away from home has resulted in two new songs, not for Wayfinding, but likely to be on whatever collection comes next.  The first – Train to Bad Places – was written while I was taking a break with family in Texas, and is already up on Soundcloud.  Perhaps the writing environment explains the little bits of roadhouse in there, but you might also be able to hear that I’m listening to a bit of Black Keys lately.

The second is a song that I wrote in a hotel room in Edmonton.  All’s Well That Ends is pretty much the story of a conversation at a hotel bar far from home.  Not really a rocker, but it’s a great story and gave me the chance to record vocals pretty much naked for once.  Just one voice (with some subtle harmony at the chorus) – no reverb, no effects other than EQ. These are good, fun challenges, and they help me to grow as an artist. I am so very, very happy with how it has turned out, and I hope you will be too.  I have just a little more work to do to get the levels right, but look for it on Soundcloud next week (I’ll post something here to let you know).

In the meantime, I’m on the plane to Edmonton again, and if you’d like a sneak peek at the new song, come catch my open mic at Duggan’s Boundary on Wednesday night.  Hope to see you then.
